Modern American History Notebook Activities

The following activities were done in class, and need to be kept in your notebook.  You will get points for having them finished at the end of the semster. 

1- Song of the Day #1 "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfeild

Look at the lyrics, listen to the song, and answer the following questions on your own paper:

1) What is this song describing?

2) Who's involved?

3) What lyrics in the song tell you this?

2-60's Trivia Sheet: This was the week one in class activity.  Below is a blank copy of the questions and the Powerpoint of the answers.

3-Take notes on the "Impact of the 50s" (1/14).  A blank outline, and answer key is provided below.

4- Take notes on the powerpoint "The Sixties Counterculture" on your own paper. (1/18)

5- Song of the Day #2- "My Generation" by The Who (1/19)

Look at the lyrics and listen to the song and then answer the following questions on your own paper:

1) What concept from the Sixties Counterculture notes does the song focus on?

2) From who's point of view is the song coming from?

3) What lyrics in the song tell you this?

 6- Video: The Hippes  As we watched the video we answered a question sheet.  A blank set of questions and   the answer key has been provided below.

7- Take Notes on "The 60's Hippie Movement" on your own paper.

8- Take Notes on "The Drug Culture". 

9- Video: The Drug Years  As we watched the video we answered a question sheet.  The answer key has been provided below, copy it on your own paper if you misplace your original question sheet. 

 10- Drug Anthems:  As you listen to each song in the lyric packet identify any lyrics that are drug references and describe if the song is a positive or negative view about drug use.

11- Take Notes on "Radicals of the 60's"    

12- Songs of the Day #3 and #4: "Volunteers" by Jefferson Airplane and "Revolution by the Beatles".    On your own paper explain how each song addresses the issue of Revolution, and include which lyrics tell you this.

13- Black Power Salute at the 1968 Olympics handout:  Answer the 8 questions at the bottom of handout.

15-Video: Chicago Riot-1968  Students answered the question sheet as they watched the video. A blank question sheet and answer key is attached below:

16- Notesheet: The Manson Murders:  Fill in the note outline that was passed out during class.

17- Video Details: The Mind of Manson 

 18- Video- Veitnam: The Camera at War:  As students watched the video they described certain photos that were listed on the video sheet.  If you missed the video can use the internet to "google" each of the listed photos.

19- Vietnam: Things To Know question sheet: As students viewed the Vietnam powerpoint they answered the question sheet.  The Vietnam Quiz will cover this info. 

20- Video Questions: Vietnam- A Soldier's Diary   

 Vietnam Songs:    Look at the lyrics and listen to the song, then on your own paper, Explain how each song relates to the Vietnam experience and list all lyrics that tell you this.

21- Notesheet: Early 60's Music:  Fill in the note outline that was passed out in class. 

22- Video: The Compleat Beatles:  Answer the video question sheet that was passed out in class. 

23- Beatles Revolution: Musical & Cultural Impact  Complete the handout by selecting whether the following impact of The Beatles was a musical one or a cultural one. 

23- Notesheet: Paul is Dead   Copy the details from the powerpoint below on your own paper. 

24- The British Invasion Notes:  Copy the details from the powerpoint that is attached below on your own paper.

WE DID NOT DO THIS ACITIVITY THIS SEMESTER

 Video: The Deaths of John Lennon & George Harrison  We answered the question sheet that is attached below as we watched the video clip.  The Answer Key follows the blank questions.
